John M. Kelly Library - St. Michael's College

Today's venture is Kelly Library at St. Mike's College. The format is quite interesting. There is a mix of rustic antiquities with modernities dating back to the 70s. Everything is extremely clean. The book shelves are close together in order to give ample space for studying area. There are few cubicles, but many tables. Some are the typical laminated tables, while others, like the one I'm sitting at, are untouched wood protected with a sheet of glass. Very beautiful. The library staff also seem to have a sense of humour. There are helpful signs around with the picture of a cyclist pointing right, or a passarine bird pointing left to various important locations (i.e. washrooms, printing area). On the doors of studying rooms, pictures of various natures are posted. The common theme of these pictures are: animals or humans, more than one individual. There are golden retrievers on some, and puffins on another. They all broadcast the message that the rooms are reserved for studying parties of two or more people. There are also many art canvases displayed around the library. There are old printing presses, as well as composites of graduating classes of St. Mike's College.

So far, I have yet to start studying. But as I sit at my rustic but glossy table, I can look out through the small window in front of me and see the branches of a large elm tree outside. But I do have to say, I like it here so far.

i love the turkey brie panini!!!! absolutely delicious!

i asked advice on which green tea was the least bitter. turns out it's Gen Maicha. It's the most like Asian green tea. And i was pleasantly surprised that the manager offered to fill my tea pot when i was finished!

the decor is gorgeous. loft like upstairs, a little bistro on the main floor, and an art gallery in the basement. but the basement still has lots of natural light. there are many paintings on display on the walls. i absolutely love them. They are mixed abstract with some realism. and then blend of colours: very interesting.

one way to break up the monotony of homework is to go walking outside down walter street right outside. beautiful!!! high end housing, but small size. makes for a beautiful downtown residential housing.

and to boot, today feels like the first day of spring: the snow hasn't started melting yet, but the sun shines and warms up the air. the birds are singing and active. could they be making their nests yet??

now i'm goign to try a carrot breakfast biscuit. we'll see what that is like.
